COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKRC) - If the senate goes with the house, Ohio won't be taxing plastic bags or containers any time soon.
The house passed a bill banning local governments from charging for bags. Some cities and states do charge a fee to cut back on plastic usage, and Mayor John Cranley is in favor of it happening here in Cincinnati.
Those in favor of the bill say the fees would hurt customers and make Ohio less business-friendly. Others think it would force shoppers to cut down on their use of plastic.
"It's sort of more representative of the true cost of what they cost to create and then the waste that they create on the back end when they're not disposed of or recycled," said Joey Danyluk.
Indiana and Kentucky already block fees on plastic bags.
